  • Colossians 3:1-3

"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God.   Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.  For you have died, and your life is hidden in Christ"  (Colossians 3:1-3, ESV).

These are the verses I have been working on since Thursday.  all_usernames_have_been taken made up a post about the need to getting back into scripture memorization and it had been something that's been on my heart to start.   I was going to wait until next week to recoup from VBS, but thought that, like physical exercise, you can make any excuse not to jump back in the game.  So as opposed to making excuses, I decided, I better get back in the game.   It's been coined "Operation Memorization" if you'd like to join, by all means hop on board.

Speaking of physical exercise, the wife and I will be jumping back into our kickboxing group tomorrow.  We need to, plain and simple.   Not only is it a physical challenge, it is a mental one as well.   Yeah, I am thoroughly exhausted, but I sleep better, I feel better.

So, that's my journey to become a more well rounded individual.

    Time for a nap!

Yay! Congrats on starting! I think that's a great one to start with. Does it have any specific meaning for you right now or do you just think it's important or what? Why did you choose this passage and no other one?

@all_usernames_have_been_taken - First I came to the realization that I missed a part at the end, "your life is hidden with Christ in God."

I think it is important as Christians to have the right mind set.   The world bombards us in all forms of media (music, TV, literature) that sometimes it is easy to get distracted.

It is interesting to see the two different verbs that Paul uses (at least according to the version I read).   "Seek" and "Set."    Seeking, to me, means that it is a continual, earnest process.   Set is a willful decision, a no turning back type of approach.  I liken it to climbing.  Seeking is the climbing process, setting is when you stick those little rings in the side of the rock.   We have to seek the things above (climb) but we also have to set ourself on a daily basis.

I'm not sure if that is hermeneutically correct, but that's my take on that portion.
